Spiritual Discernment
by Watchman Nee

Listen to the prayer of the apostle Paul for his beloved church in Philippi: “this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ” (Phil. 1.9-10). What was it that inspired him to offer such a prayer for the dear saints in Philippi? Do we today desperately need the same prayer? We talk about love and fellowship, and yet we encounter many problems and failures. What is the missing link to a glorious church? Can it be the lack of “full knowledge and all perception that ye may prove [or, distinguish] the things that differ” (literal translation)?
Certainly spiritual discernment is the pressing need of today. How can we obtain this full knowledge of God? Where do we get spiritual discernment that we may know the things which differ or are more excellent? These are the matters which brother Watchman Nee tried to address during his latter years of ministry.
This present volume, entitled Spiritual Discernment is composed of three parts: Abound in Knowledge, Abound in Discernment, and Approve the Excellent. The Publishers were able to acquire these Notes in Chinese recently, and they have now been translated into English for sharing with the English-speaking saints.
May these Notes help many in meeting the pressing need of today.
EL Secreto DE LA VIDA CRISTIANA
("The Secret of Christian Living" - Spanish Edition)
by Watchman Nee

Serve in Spirit
by Watchman Nee

Foreword
“For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers” (Rom. 1.9). This is the testimony of the apostle Paul. Should this not be true for all who are called to serve? God is Spirit, and He can only be served in spirit, not in flesh. Although this sounds simple, it is a fundamental principle of service that is being violated all the time. How we need to be reminded again and again lest we forget.
Before the First Training Session in 1948, God’s servant Watchman Nee gave a series of messages on the Breaking of the Outward Man and the Release of the Spirit. These messages were published in Chinese in May 1955 and were translated and published in English under the title of The Release of the Spirit in 1965. Due to the extreme importance of the subject matter, Watchman Nee reiterated it in the Second Training Session in 1949. The notes to these messages were recently discovered. We recall what the Word said “For God speaketh once, yea twice, though man regardeth it not” (Job 33.14). God knows our frailty, so He speaks once and twice. We certainly need such precious repetitions; hence, the present translation and publication into English. The reader will find that though the basic thoughts are the same, yet the way of expression varies.
Furthermore, we also at the same time obtained the notes taken from Watchman Nee’s instructions on service to the young people in Shanghai, spoken in January, 1949. Brother Nee, as the apostle Paul, always had the young people in heart. These are valuable instructions to young believers who have a heart to serve and they are given as the second part of the book.
May the God whom we serve truly be better served by all who love Him.
